Coho Health is the new name for Optimised Functional Medicine

Dee Brereton-Patel (BSc (Hons) Dip Nut CNM, CNHC, mIFM)

Dee is an experienced Functional Medicine and Nutritional Therapy practitioner, lecturer, co-founder of Optimised Personal Wellness, an Integrated health and fitness facility in Manchester city centre (UK), and founder of Coho Health, with clinics in Manchester (UK), Palma de Mallorca (Spain) and reaching people anywhere in the world through the virtual clinic.

The journey… After studying Pharmacology at University, Dee fell into a career in Clinical Drug Research & Development in the pharmaceutical industry, working with companies such as AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and GlaxoSmithKline. After 11 years life slowed down just long enough for Dee to realise were her true passions lie. Whilst on maternity leave, Dee realised she wanted to help people in a different way. Dee’s strong scientific background, combined with a love of food and a deep passion for helping people reach their optimal state of health and well-being, made Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine an obvious choice. After completing a three year course with the highly respected College of Naturopathic Medicine, Dee re-qualified as a registered Nutritional Therapist.
Dee Brereton-Patel Functional Medicine
Coming from a strong science background, it is important to Dee to practice evidence-based, scientifically grounded, root-cause medicine that can help deliver results in the real world. Dee began practise as a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist immediately upon qualification from a GP practice in the evenings whilst completing her contract in Pharmaceutical R&D and closing out a large international Phase 3 Oncology trial.

Committed to further education and continuously striving to be a better practitioner, Dee embarked on her Functional Medicine journey in 2013, through further training with the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) in the USA – the largest Functional Medicine training provider for practitioners.

Dee has completed all seven modules and the course work on the IFM certification course, and is pending the final exam (cancelled due to travel restrictions associated with the coronavirus), before becoming a fully Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner, with the IFM.

To meet the increasing need for Functional Medicine, Dee has been fortunate enough to grow the Coho Health clinic team to include exceptional practitioners who share the same drive and enthusiasm to help others.

Dee and the team take huge pleasure in seeing clients on a one-to-one basis, helping them to improve their chronic symptoms and overall well-being, leading happier and healthier lives – all achieved through an approach that is natural and evidence-based.

Dee is also passionate about empowering the next generation of Naturopathic / Functional Medicine practitioners and takes great pleasure from her role as a Clinical Supervisor, Senior Lecturer and Academic Tutor, for the College of Naturopathic Medicine, supporting students through their clinical and academic training.  Dee also mentors newly graduated Nutritional Therapists, ensuring that collectively, we can reach as many people as we can to help improve quality of life, well-being and longevity.

Professional affiliations

Dee is registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), a UK register for health practitioners, set up with government support.

CNHC’s register has been approved as an Accredited Register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, a body accountable to the UK Parliament.

To your optimised, healthy future,

Dee & the Coho Health team
