Hi,
It’s Dee here 👋
This week’s edition is all about small things that can make a big impact – like the simple mineral that helps boost your brain function, and the daily habit that might actually slow down ageing. As always, quick insights, real research, and zero fluff.
Let’s get into it…
Did You Know…
Your morning coffee might be doing more than just waking you up…
While for many people we recommend reducing caffeine intake, research suggests 1–3 cups a day could be linked to slower biological ageing, thanks to its impact on DNA methylation – a key process in how your genes behave over time.
The compounds in coffee could actually be reducing your biological age!
Coffee bonus: one study also suggested that coffee drinkers had up to a 27% lower risk of dying from any cause (and this is backed up by many other studies suggesting the same thing).
Now there are plenty of reasons why coffee might not be a great option for someone based on their unique circumstances, like genetics, caffeine sensitivity, stress levels, hormones, sleep quality and so on, but for those of you who enjoy and tolerate coffee, this is good news!
Research Corner…
Could this simple mineral boost your brain function?
Most people think of zinc for immunity or wound healing – but in your brain, it quietly supports memory, mood, and resilience.
✨ Here’s why:
Zinc helps to activate BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) – your brain’s “fertiliser for neurons”.
Low levels of BDNF are linked to depression, brain fog, and cognitive decline.
Clinical studies show zinc supplementation daily for 3 months raises BDNF levels.
But the form of zinc matters as does the dose (and if you’re taking medications, you need to check for any interactions).
👉 See this post for best forms of zinc to consider and the supplement dose used in the studies → here
What We’re Working On Right Now…
We’re passionate about all areas of health and solving chronic health conditions, and one of those is children’s health. We work with many families in our clinic, so we’re slowly (but surely!) working on a dedicated children’s health project – more to follow on that!
Health in 60 seconds, as promised…
